Get Rig

Download Rig as a Mac app for Apple Silicon (arm64) or Intel (x64), or the Windows x64 beta installer. macOS 13 or later; Windows 11 for the beta. Install from userig.app/download. Sparkle keeps Mac on the matching architecture channel; Windows uses electron-updater at userig.app/releases/latest.yml. Rig for iPhone is the companion on the same download page and userig.app/iphone. After install, add a project folder, start the detected processes, and optionally link Cursor or Claude to the local MCP hub. The desktop apps are free forever on the Hobby plan.

v1.1.0 Mac (Apple silicon and Intel) and Windows 11

Guessed from this computer. Intel and every other build are still in the list below.

Windows

In development

Rig is built on Electron, so the app layer ports readily. The work is the Mac-specific half: Valet, Homebrew, Screen Sharing and Wake all need Windows equivalents before it is worth shipping.

After it downloads

Installing, step by step.

Four steps on a Mac. It takes about a minute.

  1. 01

    Open the file

Double-click the .dmg you just downloaded (it is in your Downloads folder). A window opens with the Rig icon and your Applications folder.

  2. 02

    Drag Rig to Applications

Drag the Rig icon onto the Applications folder. That copies it in. You can then eject the disk image.

  3. 03

    Launch it

Open Rig from Applications or Launchpad. Because the build is notarised by Apple, it opens normally: no right-click, no Gatekeeper warning.

If macOS still says it cannot check the app, right-click (or Control-click) Rig in Applications and choose Open, then Open again. You only do this once.

  4. 04

    Point it at a folder

Choose your project folder. Rig finds the scripts, ports and services itself. Or press ⌘K and type new project. Then, if you like, link Cursor or Claude to the local MCP hub in one click (how that works).

All 4 running. That is your project, set up.

On Windows

Run the .exe installer. It is signed, and Windows shows the publisher as Rig. While the beta is new, SmartScreen may still ask you to confirm: choose More info, check the publisher says Rig, then Run anyway. Rig then opens and works the same way as on Mac.

Prefer the terminal?

Paste this into Terminal. It installs Rig without the Gatekeeper dialog, and the app opens when it is done. The rig command line (rig up and friends) ships with the app.

Will it run on my computer?

If your computer is on this list, yes.

Staying up to date, and checking the file.

You download Rig once. It keeps itself current.

Updates
Automatic, inside the app

Rig 1.0 is the first stable release. Test builds go out on a separate beta feed, so the copy you download here only ever updates to stable builds. It updates itself in the background: you download it once.

Verify the file

The DMG is notarised by Apple. That is the check: it should open without a Gatekeeper warning.

Release notes

Know when something ships.

What changed, what broke, what is next. Roughly monthly, more often during a big release. No marketing, and one click to stop.

  • Mac releases
  • iPhone releases
  • Windows launch
  • Linux launch

Mac notes go out with each release. Windows and Linux when those builds exist.

Installed? Link your assistant.

Rig works on its own. Link Cursor or Claude to the local MCP hub and they can see what is running too.
