Plans, billing and limits
Rig is free on your own computer, for good. You only pay when you want Rig to connect several machines together through Mesh, because extra machines and relay bandwidth cost us real money. This guide explains the four plans in plain terms, what counts toward your allowance, what happens if you go over it, and where to upgrade, change seats or cancel. Prices are in US dollars. The pricing page always has the current numbers, and wins if anything here is out of date.
The four plans
- Hobby, free. Everything Rig does on one computer: running and watching projects, logs, ports, managed databases, local HTTPS and addresses, and the MCP hub for Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and other assistants. It also includes a taste of Mesh: one linked machine and 5 GB of relay a month. No card is needed, and the free plan does not expire. Support is through the community forum and these docs.
- Pro, $15 a month or $144 a year. For one person working across several computers. Up to 5 machines on Mesh, 25 GB of relay a month, Wake, Screen and Teleport, and unlimited direct (peer to peer) Mesh traffic. Email support.
- Team, $25 per person a month or $240 a year. For development teams that share machines. Each seat adds 10 machines and 75 GB of relay a month, and the allowance is pooled across the team, so a heavy user can draw on a quiet one’s share. Team adds shared machines and admin controls. Email support.
- Agency, $149 a month or $1,430 a year. For studios that ship sites for clients. It includes 3 seats, with extra seats at $25 a month, and adds Snag client feedback, your own domains on client links, client reviews in your branding and guest access for clients. Priority support. Agency is set up with us directly: choose Talk to us on the pricing page.
Every plan works with every AI assistant that speaks MCP. Plans do not limit how many projects you run, how many logs you keep or which assistants you link.
What a machine is
A machine is a computer running Rig that is linked to your account’s Mesh: a Mac or a Windows PC. Machines are counted the same whatever system they run. Your iPhone is not a machine for this count; it is a way to reach your machines. A computer that runs Rig on its own, without joining your Mesh, does not count either. Rig on a single computer is always free.
What relay is, and why direct traffic is free
When two of your machines talk over Mesh, they first try to connect directly to each other. That direct, peer to peer traffic never touches our servers, so it is never metered and is unlimited on every paid plan. Sometimes a direct connection is not possible, for example behind some office or hotel networks. Then the traffic passes through a relay server, still encrypted end to end. Only that relayed traffic counts toward your monthly relay allowance. Most people use a small fraction of it.
If you go over your allowance
- Each machine beyond your plan’s allowance costs $3 a month.
- Relay beyond your allowance costs $0.25 per GB.
- By default you get an email alert at 80% and again at 100% of your allowance, and nothing is cut off.
- If you would rather never pay for overage, switch to a hard spend cap from Billing in your dashboard, or ask us to set it for you. With a hard cap, relayed traffic pauses when you reach your allowance instead of costing more. Direct Mesh traffic keeps working, and relay comes back when the next billing period starts. Live Links also use relay, so they pause too.
Monthly or yearly
Paying yearly saves 20% compared with paying monthly. Either way, your allowances reset on your renewal date, not on the 1st of the month. If you started on the 14th, your relay allowance refills on the 14th.
Adding or removing seats
On Team and Agency you can add or remove seats at any time. The seat fee is prorated, so you only pay for the part of the billing period the seat existed. The relay allowance for a new seat is added in full straight away and is never prorated.
How to upgrade
- Sign in to your account at api.userig.app/account. If you do not have an account yet, create one there. It is free.
- Open the pricing page and choose Upgrade to Pro or Start a team. For Team, set how many people first.
- Pick monthly or yearly, then pay by card on the secure checkout page.
- Your desktop apps pick up the new plan on their own. If a Mac or PC still shows the old limits after a few minutes, quit Rig and open it again.
You cannot buy or change a plan inside the iPhone app. Use the account dashboard in a browser.
Managing billing
Everything to do with payment lives in one place, the Billing section of your account dashboard.
- From a browser: Account dashboard → Billing.
- From Rig on a Mac or PC: Settings → Cloud account → Manage billing.
There you can see your plan and relay usage, update your payment details, view invoices, change seats, move between plans, and cancel.
Cancelling and going back to free
Cancel from Billing in your dashboard. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the billing period you have already paid for. You keep every paid feature until then, and then your account moves back to Hobby. Nothing on your computers is deleted, and Rig keeps running all your local projects exactly as before, because local features are free. What changes is Mesh: it drops back to the free allowance of one linked machine and 5 GB of relay, and Wake, Screen and Teleport stop being available. Your Continuity backups and synced settings stay in your account. On Team you can also move down to Pro instead of cancelling.
Deleting your Rig account is different from cancelling. It cancels billing and permanently removes your account data, including synced settings and Continuity backups. Do that from the account dashboard only if you are sure.
Early supporter offers
During the beta we have offered early supporters lower prices, such as Pro at a reduced monthly price for as long as the subscription stays active. If you took one of those offers, it stays attached to your subscription. Cancelling ends it, and it cannot be restored later. Check the pricing page for any offer that is open now.
Company buyers
If you need single sign on, a security review, invoicing instead of card payment, or a larger Team, use Talk to us on the pricing page and we will set it up with you.
