Troubleshooting FAQ

Short answers. Each one links to a deeper guide when useful.

Mac says the app is from an unidentified developer

Stable builds are notarised, so this usually means an old beta copy. Download the current build and replace it. See Install.

Windows says “Windows protected your PC”

That is SmartScreen being careful with a new beta installer. The installer is signed: choose More info, check the publisher says Rig, then Run anyway. See Install Rig on Windows.

Port already in use

Reclaim from the project or ⌘K. Details in Ports & crashes.

Process keeps crashing

Read the unified log and last-exit reason. Fix env / DB first; then restart. MCP can pull logs into your editor — Connect MCP.

Docker / DB won’t start

Start Docker Desktop, run Setup diagnose, then retry managed Postgres/Redis. Guide: Databases.

MCP tools missing in Cursor

Hub running? Token current? Re-link from Connections. See MCP.

Sign in to cloud, ensure the project is running with a local URL, then Share → Live Link. Live Link guide.

Does Rig upload my source?

No. Sync and Continuity never upload repo contents. Live Link only proxies a running HTTP process. Read Cloud & Continuity.

Lost Continuity recovery key

Those snapshots cannot be decrypted — by design. You can keep using Rig locally and start fresh Continuity with a new key. We cannot reset the old key.

Do I need a cloud account?

Not for local run, logs, ports, MCP or LAN share, which are free. Yes for Live Link, Continuity, sync between computers, Mesh and fleet. See Plans, billing and limits.
